Straight A student going to Community College

I’m a high school senior with a 31 on the ACT and a 3.9 unweighted GPA, but next year I’ll be attending a community college because of financial reasons and other personal reasons. Can someone please tell me what the process is like transferring from a community college to a good 4-year university?

Opps, I think this should be in the Transfer Students section.

To answer your question, the process is fairly simple…take the required classes/prereqs for your major and apply to each different school via the TAG/TAP program (for UCs…different for privates) Its just nowadays its harder to get the courses you need cause of these budget cuts. I, myself withdrew from Chapman University because I couldn’t afford the tuition…applied to PCC in late July and am now taking my classes there. Most likely will be staying there for 3 years to finish up my GEs.

its not bad. quite easy if you manage to get your classes. if you did well in hs, you will most likely breeze through CC. my gf was in IB and also ended up going to CC and is now at USC.

one thing that you will notice at CC is the amount of slackers is by far the most in almost any learning environment. do not get deterred by them haha.

Ya…

Preety much!

From what I know, transferring to a 4 year college from a cc isn’t too bad. You just have to treat the cc like it’s a real college. Lots of people in your classes will only care about passing classes and not for actually doing well. ECs can be harder, especially major related ones because most people seem to see cc’s as a place to get in, go to class, and get out. But you can find EC’s and since most people don’t stay long I guess it’s easier to get a leadership position.

Also it’s easier if you identify the school(s) you want to transfer to ahead of time. Some of them want you get an AA, some don’t care. Some have required courses before you can transfer(this is often based on your major). If you figure this out ahead of time it saves you from taking classes you don’t need.

The Counseling and Advising Center at your CC will have lots of information about Transferring available for you. There may even be one or more dedicated Transfer Counselors. Here is a link to the Transfer Page at Happykid’s CC. Although some of the information is specific to that institution, much of it will be relevant for you as well.

Wishing you all the best!

And if you’re going to a California Community College and plan to transfer to a UC or CSU, then [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) will be your greatest resource. If not, then disregard what I just said :P
