I have been in the United States for more than 5 years, but I still seem to have problems with grammar and reading comprehension in English. I took it in November 2008 as a Junior and did terrible on Critical Reading and Writing. Does anyone have advice on how I could bring up my score? (Besides a tutor?)

eesh, you may not have enough time for this, but you should read American classics, like Great Gatsby, Scarlet Letter, Grapes of Wrath… the list goes on… you can draw examples from these books to use for your essay

The most important thing for me in grammar was understanding independent and dependent clauses. It all kinda follows from there. I would just use the internet to look up various grammar devices and then take practice tests on them.

it’s not strange. lol
most people (including me) sucked at CR.
but if you take your time to actually go over the questions and learn what is it asking, you will develop a “sense” of the right answer even before you read the answer choices. :]
