Stress/Competetiveness in BioE

Hello everyone!
I’m so excited that I got admitted EA to bioengineering. I loved Princeton when I went to visit but unfortunately I didn’t get to talk to any engineering students.

So, I wanted to ask a quick question to current students. As with all challenging environments there should be drive to succeed. I’m wondering is this competitiveness at the expense of others or is there a lot of collaboration?

Also, how stressful is Princeton? (Not including the good stress that makes you work harder)

Thanks!

My son graduated BSE in May - Princeton engineering for him was an exceptionally collaborative environment, even with grade deflation (now no longer part of the official grading policy). He found the academic demands to be extremely stressful his first year (he was also a varsity athlete). I am convinced he didn’t think it was at all “good stress” at the time but he seemed to settle into a great rhythm sophomore year and beyond, and this spring graduated with department awards and highest honors. Now having finished his first semester of grad school he is grateful for the exceptional time management and study skills he acquired while at Princeton.
