stressed jr. worried about chances (help please!)

Hi! I’m currently a hs. jr. and i’m starting to freak out, and teens around the nation are, about colleges. I was looking into JHU as an option but I was wondering if I am wasting my time. I don’t know if i have a chance or not. anyway, here are my stats

SAT I: 2040 670 math and c.r. and 700 writing. These scores WILL go UP because I definately bombed the math section. retaking in october.
here’s my main concern
SATII:…i took the SAT II bio and I only got a 640. eh. But i LOVE biology…just not molecular biology (which I stupidly picked). But hopkins “recommends” but doesn’t require…I’m not very good at standardized testing and I was wondering how bad it looks if I don’t take any more SAT IIs. I would take them, but i know for a fact that my scores will not be good. :-(. this is a stressful issue right here. help me please
GPA: 98 ish. for my school, most people don’t take AP courses until they are a senior. I moved from my old school and took 2 AP courses as a sophmore. high B in AP euro and a high A in AP psych and a 5 on the ap psych exam. grad with 10 AP courses.

anyway-
freshman year:

 • piano (2nd in state)
 • speech and debate (state finalist)
 • junior achievement
 • science olympiad
 • orchestra

MOVED!!!

Sophmore year:

fought through the system to take AP classes as a soph. and a 5 on the ap psych test. 1st soph in school history to do so…does that even matter though?

orchestra

pit orchesta

careers in health club

volunteer for 60+ hrs in the elementary school

violin lessons

Junior year:

4th chair 1st violinists orchestra

Harrisburgh youth symphony orchestra (1st year member - 4th chair 1st violinists)

120+ hrs of volunteer in the elementary school

still most advanced classes

organized fundraiser for adrenoluekodystrophy.

organized a school pro-choice tshirt day.

3rd chair pit orchestra

Vice president for careers in health club (activities such as organizing a blood drive)

NHS inductee

next year:

 • plan to be either concertmistress or assitant concertmistress for Harrisburg Youth Symphony Orchestra (pretty confident)
 • Either concertmistress or assistant concertmistress for school orchestra
 • Pres. for Careers in Health club
 • organize another prochoice tshirt day
 • 120+ volunteer hours in elementary school
 • Concertmistress for Pit orchestra
 • more ap classes…yay.
 • plan to run for a NHS officer
 • probably commended for the PSATs…tiny tiny chance of a semi-finalist. more unlikely than likely

So my lack of SATII scores kinda scares me. The whole “recommended” phrase is unnerving. It’s just if I take the SATIIs, I don’t think I will do to well…
help please

Thank you guys so much!!!

Hey. I don’t know if there’s really a way to know for sure what will get you in and what won’t. What is your intended major? Your stuff looks good but, like I said, no one can really tell you if you’re going to get in or not (unless you’re an AMAZING candidate or a HORRIBLE candidate, then there is a better idea). I would say just do interesting things during your summers (or, rather, your last summer) so you have some additional resume padding. Good luck!

hey. thanks for ur advice. Yeah i agree about the not really knowing if i can make it in or not. I guess i was just hoping for some imput from some unbiased people. Like for instance, my friends can’t exactly say - u can’t make it in. don’t try. ya know? Anyway. my intended major…medicince. and I am doing an internship/researching/publishing projects under a professor at the local med center.
thanks again

I hate to say it but your lackluster Bio score + no other SATII’s will hurt you badly.

Look elsewhere is what I’ll say. You don’t really have much of a shot.

so…sats, and satIIs are basically…mostly all that matters is what ur saying faenix? contrary to what most other people are saying about activities, personality, essay, etc?

no chance. got it. note taken. thanks for the reality check.
wow.
harsh.

well…since i needed to hear it…
right.
thanks again

all i can tell you is to apply, you’ll either get in or you wont at least you’ll never regret not applying and you wont have to wonder whether you wouldve gotten in or not. I applied (didnt think i would get in) and actually got in and iam attending. Do your best apply and you’ll know if you had a chance or not! if you have any questions just ask Good Luck!

oh and by the way SAT 2’s are not all that matter Iam a bio major i took molecular biology and got a 540:)

thanks for the encouragement!

Yeah really…I got in RD with very lackluster GPA/SAT scores (barely top 25% of my class, 1400 composite, 1330 highest, 690 Math 2C, 620 Bio-M, 630 Physics, 550 Writing). Contrary to what everyone else is saying…you have a good shot. Just make sure you can really personalize your application through your essays and get good recs.

asdfTT123…
this may be kind of random. but…on other posts u have ur s/n listed as atma264. and ur birthday is oct 26 etc etc. all of ur stats (cept SAT and SATIIs) match up with a certain friend of mine. who swears he’s not you. just wondering…erm. coincidence? Two people can’t have the same s/n…practical joke? just curious.
Thanks for the advice, too.
