Stressless recliner - do you own one?

I’m thinking about splurging and buying the cheapest model of Ekorness stressless recliner for a combination birthday/xmas present and to celebrate my 50th birthday. They are so pricey ($1000 ) even with current discount that I am scared of taking the plunge. DO you have one? Is it worth it? Has it held up well? Any suggestions regarding do or don’t buy? Leather colors or types? I’ve never spent that much money for any piece of furniture before, but I want a chair my size (small) that will last me the rest of my life… so should I?

We have 3; 1 large, 2 smaller. Cow Brown calfskin leather, bought in late 70’s for ~600 and ~500. They were our first pieces of furniture, they could fit in our hatchback, sturdy but light weight. Functional.

One of the smaller Stressless was given to DS to outfit his two rooms.

Alternative to the stressless, is a washlet bidet seat. :)

We just bought one a month ago on the advice of the CC parents on the Parent Cafe. It is certainly expensive, but very comfy, and the leather is luxurious. We got the Mayfair in black (figured it was less likely to show dirt!) and got the Paloma leather, which was soft and attractive, but not as prone to stains as the Royalin (which they did not recommend for that reason). So far, so good–easy on the eyes and the back. Not so good on the pocketbook, however, since we could have gotten 2 Lazboys for the price of one Stressless.

That is SO weird. I started a thread on this, then it didn’t show up, so I started another one and - low and behold - here they BOTH are. Sorry for the duplication…

Come again - I am not understanding

Our sitting wants when we were younger are different from the sitting needs when we are older.

Its the time of year for my yearly unabashed promotion for clean seats. :p

As I said on the eartlier thread, I go to furniture stores so I can enjoy these wonderful recliners for a few brief minutes! But I’m seriously thinking about getting one for H for Christmas. Apparently, Ekornes is having a sale - donate $50 to charity, get $200 off of a recliner: [Stressless Charity Promo :: Ekornes](Innovative Scandinavian design since 1934 - Ekornes AS)

hmmm…how many massages can I get with that money?
Now that I’m old and creaky, I LOVE massages. No puritanical concerns here…it feels great (some of my friends won’t do massages…can’t get past the “massage parlor” influences…their loss!).
But having a chair like that would be cool too…

toneranger, I have 2 words for your friends: Massage Envy. Definitely NOT a “parlor” ;)

100% worth it. We’ve had ours since our son was born…16 years…still have it in the family room and its the most comfortable chair ever. Whenever my sister comes to visit she makes a beeline for it!

Well, I did it! (though it cost considerably more than $1000…) They are having a sale on my favorite Stressless model, the “Sunrise” - Ekornes actually lowered the price $300, and there is a sale until the end of March for an additional $300 off - so that it is the same price as their lowest priced “diplomate/consul/ambassador” model. And it comes with a free little table or accessory. I must have spent 2 hours wavering back and forth between the “small” and the “Medium” size…the salesman actually brought me magazines to read, and later a mug of water so that I could lounge for a long time. I eventually decided that the medium would fit any larger guests to my house, and they both felt terrific to me, so I went with the medium. So… $1195 base chair in fabric, plus $300 for the leather upgrade, and $100 for the larger size, plus tax. Way more than I spent for my first car, or my couch/chair/coffee table combined - but I know that I will REALLY cherish this chair for the next 40 years. So what did I get? Sunrise Medium in Paloma cherry leather, with natural wood and a little round wood arm table. The leather is much redder and deeper than in the online website. I know because I have a sample that I can look at while I wait the 4-5 months (groan…) that it will take for them to make and deliver my chair from Denmark. (Some people would be happy with stock colors, but not me.)
I am typing this from my Ekornes Memphis…marvelous! I bought mine for $700 on craigslist. I LOVE it. Worth every penny.

I’ve looked and looked on Craigslist - but I’ve only seen a few, and in bigger sizes and only in black or brown… so I splurged. Only 1 more year of college to pay for forever - so I deserve it, right? And mimimomx3, congrats on your chair. I do love craigslist (and ebay)!

I got very lucky!!! It’s an amazing splurge…I use it everyday, what else can you say that about?

I looked online- thinking they were like the heavy looking recliners my mom liked, but they were much better looking, so I checked to see where the local dealer was and it is a few blocks away so I guess I will have to go check it out!

My Dad needs a recliner that lifts you out of it. Is this one of those?

Noooo… but these are the only recliner approved by the American Chiropractic society, or something like that. They have incredible lumbar support and the head rest adjusts as you recline so that your head is supported at the best angle to read… but can be lowered to flat if desired. As you can tell - I’m a real fan! They are danish, with wood bases, and they swivel. Not heavy looking…

ebeeee-my Mom had one of those lift you out of recliners. It was huge but it worked really well. The Grandkids loved it. The nice thing was when my Mom was sick the younger cousins would all pile into the recliner with her.

My dad had one of those lifting recliners, and it was very uncomfortable. The seat was extremely firm–hard, really. Make sure you try it out before you buy.

My Mom’s was very comfortable. I think you can try them out at Federal Drug in Loreto Plaza at State/Las Positas. When my Mom died my younger D was 9. That chair was the one thing she wanted us to bring home from my Mom’s house. I passed.
Now if she had had a Stressless recliner I think all 6 kids would have been fitting over it.

Many may not realize: most (all?) Ekornes Stressless recliner styles come in 3 sizes…small, medium and large, (think Goldilocks and the 3 bears), although they give the sizes fancier marketing names, depending on the style. My petite, 80+ year old mom purchased one of the small sized recliners about a year ago and says it was the best furniture purchase she had ever made. It was the only recliner she found that fit both her petite form and her smaller home.
