Strict attention to the rules

This is something I cannot stand. I skipped one of my classes a few days ago because of AP exams. I was extremely tired and needed to get away from school for my own mental well-being. The teacher found out and marked me as a cut, and now I have to take the final exam in that class (I’m a senior BTW). I simply cannot stand people who enslave themselves to the rules. He said I made a “bad decision” by skipping class. I feel like exploding. The school system imposes such stupid rules upon its students that it is pathetic. I consider myself a mature adult with a good sense of moderation, but because of the other immature students in the school, I must also be chained by the same restrictions that are imposed by the school. I’m more intelligent and responsible than many of the teachers. In fact, I have a more admirable work ethic than most of them. Yet, my position within the school system is nothing better than that of a rodent. I will continue to fight this subjugation and resist the rules, because I know what’s good for myself better than the ignorant, mindless robots that run the school.

i totally know how you feel. its the most frusterating thing in the world.

Tough it out. I’m in my 4th year of college and I had various frustrations when I was in high school, but the frustrations I experienced in college went above and beyond the high school stuff. I have delt with a lot of crap from professors, especially this semester. One of my professors (prof A) made required the entire class to attend a voluntary presentation forum. Many of the students had to miss other classes for it. We are all engineering students (between 30 and 40 of us). Later in the semester a different prof scheduled an event that would require everyone to miss one of prof A’s classes. Prof A got very angry about this. He expected us to miss other classes due to the requirements of his course yet he didn’t condone the same thing being done to him. This prof also doesn’t allow any student to make up the daily computer assignments in one of his programming classes if you happen to miss class. I had to go to a research conference (required since I had been paid for the research) and even that wasn’t a good enough reason to be able to make up an assignment. And when many students missed one of his classes due to an educational field trip, the students who didn’t go on the trip (only because they were not enrollled in the course that did the field trip) and attended the lecture received bonus points. The prof is a good lecturer but he is very difficult to deal with.

that sucks. my school excuses u the entire day if u are taking an AP exam that day :(

i would suggest talking to ur teacher?

cherrybarry – I’m a senior also, and I have to take finals in every class. Even though I have an A in every class. Even though I took APs this week, so there is nothing left to do for the rest of the year (Finals are the third week of June). I would love to have the option not to take finals, and I certainly wouldn’t screw it up by cutting class.

I know this sounds really mean of me to say, but if you consider yourself to be a “mature adult” then you should maturely accept the punishment for your “bad decision.” Even unfair rules have consequences.

I get excused after an ap exam, 'cause seriously, after taking a 3-hr test, how is it possible/and what is the point of going to like 2 hours of pointless classes.
can you explain to your teacher that you were tired/didn’t feel well or something?
and I have to take finals too, I think my physics and history teachers are giving us finals even though we took an ap test, AND i have a stupid regents in history (which compared to the ap test is like 2+2)

and I know what you mean, theres a lot of “crack heads” (haha) in my school.

justinmeche what college do you go to
