I’d think that you will be competitive, but not particularly strong. I have seen applicants from our local high schools (nationally ranked, for whatever it is worth) with similar qualifications got accepted/rejected.

You most certainly do not have a “strong chance.” The vast majority of accepted students rank #1 or #2 in their class or have done something rare and notable that really makes them stand out. So what makes YOU stand out from a sea of other students with similar or better stats? If you can identify that and write about it passionately you may have a shot at “selling yourself” to the admissions committee.

so which of my EC’s would be interesting to focus on in an essay?

The one that you’re most passionate about or that you can tell the best story about. This may not be the most prestigious EC, but talk about what you’ve enjoyed.

Brown University is consistently ranked #3 in the world, so no, you’re stats are only middling.

Bruno is right. Brown really likes students with passion and self-initiative. Write about something that drives you, something that you did that’s not just a cookie-cutter opportunity you took on because your high school offered it and you figured it might look good on a college app.

Thank you all for the advice! The thing is, all of my activities are mine because they drove me, none were taken as an app-booster. I was just wondering if any seemed unique, or particularly interesting as a topic.

Also I’m well aware of my academic stats and where they place me. I’m working towards an SAT above 2200.

Where exactly do you get this?

According to this-
[Admission Facts | Undergraduate Admission](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University)

462 were val or sal.

Out of over 1,500 accepted with rank information.

For the data given, at least, looks like being #1 gives you a reasonably significant bump, number 2 not so much.

Of course the vast majority of high schools don’t even report rank according to this. So I take it you have some sort of insider statistics?
