<p>I’m definitely applying to WashU (RD), and I was wondering if I am competitive enough for the Mckelvey Undergrad Research Award. Applying for ChemE, btw</p>
<p>I think it is too much of a reach, but tell me what you guys think. (I know WashU is also sort of a reach, but I’m still applying :p) </p>
<p>I’ll be Brief:</p>
<p>**Asian male, pretty competitive school<a href=“3-4%20HYPSM,%205-6%20to%20Ivy,%20and%2010-12%20to%20top%20colleges”>/B</a>. So far, this year, 2 to Brown, 1 to Cornell, 1 to Columbia, 1 to Duke, 4 to Michigan, 2 to Chicago</p>
<p>GPA(school doesn’t calculate unweighted):** 4.504, rank= 20/538 (top 3.7%)**
-Major upward trend, had only 1 B last year (APUSH), and have straight As this year
-Taking hardest curriculum out of all of the 538 students
-Will graduate with 11 AP scores, 2 college courses (Quantitative Analysis II and Multi Var Calc
Sophomore year (4,4)
Junior (5,5,5,5,3)</p>
<p>ACT: 34 (36M, 34S, 32 R, 33E, 10essay)
It might be a 35 superscore, need to wait for scores in Dec.
-Have gotten a 12 essay in past administration</p>

<p>Common App essay: Pretty good, talked about how table tennis has guided my life and taught me lessons. Also how it acted as a person and provided me with a new perspective, one that I could not learn from anyone else</p>

Research(11,12): - All in Chemistry
-**2years/250+ hours of research on 3 different projects<a href=“2%20with%20professor%20and%20%5BB%5D1%20INDEPENDENT%5B/B%5D-yes%20I%20designed%20the%20whole%20thing%20by%20myself”>/B</a>
-Wrote 2 research papers and 1 research proposal
-1 research paper will be submitted for publication in 1-2 months
-Recieved highest grade in class at Quantitative Analysis II at university (met 9 hours a week, upper level advanced chem course)
-Accepted to Junior Humanities Science Symposium
-Submitting all 3 to WashU</p>
<p>Table Tennis(For 7 years now?):
-Numerous multistate and state awards, **ranked nationally<a href=“#182%20for%20all%20juniors%20and%20#32%20for%2016yr%20olds”>/B</a>, #2 junior in state, 2000+ hours spent training, Pres + founder of club, state club champ</p>
<p>Chess (2,3,4,5,6,9,10,11,12-haha, been doing for a while):
-VP and co captain of club, 10th+11th grade city champion, school took 1st both years</p>
<p>Math Team(9,10,11,12)-
B team (9,10-50 people on it), A team (11,12-5 people on it), team got 1st in league, 3rd in state, 10th in New Englands. I qualified for states and new englands and was awarded 3rd highest scoring junior in league</p>
<p>Science Quiz Bowl(did for 6 years)-
C team (9,10),** B team captain (11), A team captain (12). Each year my team placed top 10 at states** and our A team won states 3 times. Huge time commitment.
-Part of** school chemistry olympiad (for UNSCO) team** got **1st in states (out of 35 schools). **</p>
<p>Volunteer-250+ hours, 3 years of tutoring, 4 years of state and local proctor at mathcounts competition, many fairs</p>
