I am a junior living in Hawaii. My GPA is 4.0 unweighted and founded a future medical professionals club. I’m looking for a relatively cheap school as to not take out loans for undergraduate; a strong science program and big city are big factors, any suggestions?

What is your budget?

The most I could pay per year is around 15k total; I’m hoping for a few scholarships

Top schools have need based scholarships that are very generous. So don’t let the still let price deter you from those.

Duke is not in the city but has an incredible science e program and atmosphere.

While duke is 60k a year, I know someone who comes from a family income of about 135k per year and only pays 15k per year, entirely on need based aid. At duke (and most ivies and such) if your family income is less that 60k per year tuition is free.

Thanks, my family’s income is about 115k but I don’t want to take a loan in preparation for medical school.

Duke has a policy about loans. No more than 5k of loans per year. Many schools have no loan policies. So if you can get into one of these schools I wouldn’t worry too much about finances.

What about some of the less selective schools such as Creighton or Drexel?

Within a $15,000 per year budget, consider these if you qualify:

Also, University of Hawaii - Manoa is $15,554 as a commuter living at your parents’ place, $22,227 living in the residence halls. The Hilo campus is cheaper, $13,050 as a commuter at your parents’ place, $16,680 in the residence halls. Obviously, the commuter method only works if your parents are on the correct part of the correct island.

Less selective schools will likely be less generous with need based due to a smaller endowment. But they will still have it. And they will have merit money, which most top schools to don’t offer. If you are curious about your need based package most schools have a net price calculator on their websites that tends to be fairly accurate (or as accurate as the input information is).
