Anyone have any experience with structural health monitoring, specifically with regard to civil structures, but any knowledge would be good. I’m looking to do research in the area and am trying to find a unique application for my master’s thesis. The group I’m working with is in the middle of a big project involving a heel trunnion bascule bridge (draw bridge). Bascule bridges are great for SHM for a variety of reasons, so my initial thoughts are to possibly come up with an SHM system for a different type of moving bridge or other sort of moving structure. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of good research going on at UIUC. Also at Rice. PM me with an academic e-mail address and I can forward you to some friends of mine who are working on structural integrity monitoring. Don’t want to just give out their info on a public forum, though.
