Stuck Between Georgia and Ohio State

I’ve narrowed down the schools that have accepted me to Ohio State-Columbus and Georgia-Athens.

I will major in foreign languages. Both have accepted my transfer credits to cover their general education requirements (English, math, etc.) so I would only be taking language courses. I graduated in 2006 from Texas-Arlington with a business/Spanish degree, and both schools are okay with that and have accepted me as a transfer student.

I will be out-of-state for both but finances are no issue. I’ve lived most of my life in Texas and Louisiana so Georgia life wouldn’t be a shock. I’ve also lived in Norway and Colorado and have dual citizenship with Canada so cold weather at Ohio State is fine with me. In fact, I’m very interested in watching B1G hockey there.

As far as a career, product localization and translation interest me the most. I have a business degree and a certificate in Spanish translation. I’m going back to school to add Japanese and Russian to my arsenal. Languages are my passion.

I just need a tie breaker. This is so tough for me! Thanks everybody!

If you want to go back to Texas/Louisiana after graduation, I’d give the slightest edge to Georgia for local reputation. But anywhere else, Ohio State probably has the better national reputation.

Thanks.
Most of my family is in the Houston area, and they would probably prefer that. However, my priority is securing a job after graduation. I’m not married or have children so I have no obligations to stay in one place. I’m even prepared to live in Canada if the opportunity came up. I’ve traveled there several times and have family there.

It sounds like you want to travel a bit, so go with tOSU.

Why would Georgia have a better local rep in TX/LA than Ohio State? That doesn’t make sense (nor is it my experience having lived in LA and OK).

Well, the decision will be made soon if GA will allow students to have guns on campus (the bill is with the governor, who wants only a few minor tweaks). If that is a big turnoff, pick OSU.
