Stuck

Like many Asians, I’m a freshman already prepping for the SAT’s. However, with the new changes recently announced for the SAT’s in the spring of 2016, I’m stuck on whether or not I should still continue to prep for the current SAT, or just not take it all and take the ACT. I have a tight schedule next year so I was thinking of prepping little by little over a long period of time so I can’t cram. There are no books out there as of now for the new SAT since the new test has yet to come out, thus, trying to prep for it is like walking a blind path. What are your thoughts? Responses would be appreciated.

If you really want to focus on test prep as a freshman then I would suggest starting with the ACT. The changes on the New SAT seem pretty significant and like you said, prepping with the current test would probably be a waste.

In general, I think you are better served by building your skills (especially reading and math) as much as you can through school. As someone who scored in the 99 percentiles of the PSAT, SAT and LSAT, I think you really only need 3 months of study for each particular test. You are better off building up your overall academic intelligence through your school’s curriculum and pursuing education on your own. At this point in your development that will probably help you more than anything else. I wouldn’t focus on test-prep until the summer after sophomore year, personally.
