student admitted to colleges "Now what" parent advice for parents

D got in Pomona; Scripps, Lewis and Clark; Willamette; Oxy; Amherst and Wellesely. Anyone have first person knowledge about these schools, especially fin aid, getting in graduate school from there and travel in and out (we are west coast)? bigdaddyvee

You should have FA packages, or they will be coming quickly. Nobody can tell you exactly how those packages will look, but run the Net Price Calculators if you have not yet for any schools she has not gotten the packages from yet.

Assuming you know about travel to and from the west coast schools, since you live there. I think Amherst is the harder of the two east coast schools to get to (vs. Wellesley). But neither is terrible.

What subject is she considering studying in grad school? All of these schools can be a springboard to grad school – generally the higher ranked (and more expensive) schools will be stronger. But it is also more difficult to get top grades at the harder schools, and good grades are important for grad school acceptance.

Honestly, these are all solid choices. If the finances work out for you, let her go visit accepted student days at her top 3 choices and make a final decision.

If you plan on visiting for parents weekend or staying for move in, look into hotel reservations now. Hotels close to colleges can fill up fast at these times.

I stayed in the Ponoma on campus hotel a couple weeks ago during Open View (AG Open house) - free breakfast. It was okay for the price and MUCH cheaper than anything else around.

We bid on hotwire for a hotel near Pomona and got a great deal, right next to the outlet mall too! My nephew enjoyed attending Pomona and is now in his 1st year of med school. He double-majored math/bio (I think).

Neither Amherst* nor Wellesley has issued RD admission decisions yet (I don’t know about the others mentioned in the OP), so take the question with a grain of salt. If OP’s kid got in at either, it was ED and the question is moot.

*Except Diversity Day invites

Agreed with Requin. Could the OP please clarify HOW they have these acceptances to Amherst and Wellesley?
