Student Athlete Advantages (D3 level)

I am trying to weigh my college options and wanted to see what playing a sport in college would be like. What advantages to college life did you find? What about career and resume building, did being an athlete help you get a job? Anything else?

-Thanks

I ran cross-country at an NAIA school, so I did get a small scholarship. Other than that, it didn’t do much for me long term.

It gives you structure and community, especially across years, which can be helpful as an underclassman. Many teams maintain ties with alums who may help out with jobs and internships (and come to games, etc). But it’s also a lOT of time and commitment, so you should first and foremost really like your sport!

My D had a couple of friends who were recruited D3 athletes. The advantages were 1) it provided a bump in terms of admissions 2) they had an immediate group of friends.
