Does anyone know what kinds of grades and test scores a prospective student-athlete will need in order to be considered for admission at cornell?

There are no cutoffs. But you better be damn good at your sport. Cornell let 3 people in with <550Math last year and 5 people in with <550 Verbal. Cornell doesn’t publish GPA stats at all as far as I know.

depends what sport you play too, lacrosse and hockey probably have the most pull in admissions.

I am from canada and have about an 80% average, and that is an A- here. Would that be good enough combined with a 1900 about on the new sat? Does Cornell require sat ii’s? Do other extracurricular activities matter in athletes admissions? By the way, this is for the sport of lacrosse

None of us knows. We aren’t cornell admissions officers. Research, www.cornell.edu…

and no one hear knows what a 1900 is (or at least i don’t) what is the equivalent?

hey, i am an early decision admit this year, student -athlete for squash. Oh and conveniently canadian as well. where you at jcm? and i dont think you have the 1900 on the sat right

perhaps ur thinking of the psat scores (3) combined but even then it doesnt add up, i donno. And you americans, canada has SAME SAT’s as you. YOu prob already knew that, but jcm made it sound different

Martinez, would you share your stats? My S (junior in hs) is considering Cornell for '06 and would be a student-athlete.
For the OP- it depends on what college within Cornell you are applying to for the SAT II requirements. You should contact the coach and ask him your questions. My S met with a coach and got good information.

the 1900 on the sat part…I havent taken the sat yet, and isnt the new one out of 2400, so that is a prediction

i have no idea

and my stats will take too much time, lol. besides i hate all those stats stuff on this website, worst part. which sports u all going for?

Track/cross country. Just wondered how much you thought your sport helped you with admissions.

I think that if you are a recruited athlete in ANY sport it helps with admission. I would also like to know the answer to the question, because I am one and I would like to know if my grades are enough to get accepted.

Athletes probably do get in with much lower scores than non-athletes. A 1900 on the new SAT I is not too bad though, if students really did get in with less than 550’s on each subject for the old SAT. A 1900 on the new SAT is theoretically around ~1270 on the old SAT, if you multiply your score by (2/3). One would think that that is a fine score for a student athlete. Even if you weren’t going there for athletics, with a score like that, you would have a chance at CALS or ILR at Cornell.

I did 620 for Math and 550 verbal on the old SAT ( 1170 ) and I got recruited for soccer. Do I stand a chance? I applied for the College of Human Ecology.

My guess is that you definitely stand a chance. Student-athelte with 1170 SAT is not too bad, especially considering you applied to Human Ecology, and your math is higher. Good luck!

Thanks man I appreciate it! The reason I did so low on verbal is probably because my first language is not english. I grew up in a french part of Canada.

I have heard that 1200 is a rough guideline for a recruited athlete. If you are a franchise-player OR in an important sport like ice hockey or football, obvously you can have lower scores.

Hey Maxacre I am getting recuited for soccer also. What club team do you play on?

I was playing for Moncton First touch AAA last summer and I’m currently on the Canada Games Team. if your Canadian I might have seen you at the nationals! but yeah that’s pretty cool. What club do you play for?

I am from California and play on FC Fremont Fury. How’s your admissions status as of now? Do you have a AIM screen nam, etc.?
