student body

I am very interested in Haverford and was wondering what kind of people the college attracts. I’d describe myself as a quirky person who likes to have fun and do interesting things, can I find similar people at HC? I’ve read a lot about the school and many reviewers say that the student body is quiet and shy. Would I be able to find my niche here?

Yeah, sounds about right. If you live in that part of the country, you can spend a night in the dorms (although you might need to be accepted first, I can’t remember exactly).

As with visiting any college, try to talk to as many people as possible. Not just whomever crosses your path either, but scope around a little bit and you’ll easily find people people who look like you can relate to, I’m sure.

“Quiet and shy” is a bit misleading. The type of student any small college like Haverford would attract is more likely someone who is comfortable in a close-knit community and someone who enjoys studying and serious learning (as opposed to coasting by or just trying to live it up now that they’ve gotten into college and there’s less pressure). Combine those two and suddenly people aren’t as raucous and it’s not in their nature to, for example throw huge themed parties (the exception being some of the sports teams).

Fun and interesting things can mean a lot of things, but you’ll be happy how unique some of the students are in what they’ve studied, what hobbies they have, and so on. This is true for a lot of top colleges and universities as well.
