<p>I have been doing a lot of reading about Yale and in all of my reading, I haven’t read a thing about a Yale Student Center/Campus Center. Is there one? Or do they just have common rooms in the individual colleges? If the latter is true, then do you think that takes away from socializing on a whole-university level?</p>
<p>I am a Yale student, but I’m lazy so I’ll go with what College Prwlr wrote:</p>
<p>“There is no student center at Yale, but students agree that the lack of such a place is rarely, if ever, missed. Each residential college has a common room for meetings or just hanging out, as well as a library (or two, in the case of Davenport), dining hall, TV room, laundry room, and features such as private gyms, kitchens, darkrooms, or music rooms.”</p>
<p>Those statements are accurate, namely “rarely if ever missed.” Even though there is a “commons” (a non-residential college dining hall), because of the residential college setup, you might know kids outside your residential college slightly less well than you would in the other situation. But honestly… this limited sacrifice is WELL WELL WORTH IT. The advantage of having a small residential community is HUGE: it makes Yale feel like a small school with the resources of a big school.</p>
<p>And also, it kind of seems like it might actually be intimidating and harder to get to know kids at a big campus student center. Maybe that’s just me though.</p>
<p>There’s always CCL.</p>
<p>CCL is now Bass Library. The architecture has changed a lot and it may not be the same hang out as in days of yore, although it has a cafe area now (not “cafe area” like Machine City).</p>
<p>Yeah, I forgot the name change, but it’s still the working library, which is what I meant.</p>
