I have joined student congress for next year, which is basically Student Council. Should I run for officer for junior year? If i do win the elections and become a junior officer I have to give up a class because being an officer takes up an elective. Now the class I am thinking to give up is Principles of Health Sciences, a regulars course, but this STUCO class is also regulars. Both have their advantages. If I take the medical class, I can also join the Health sciences club and might have a chance to do Clinicals in senior year, which is basically shadowing with nurses, etc. Now most of my friends have told me that this medical class really doesn’t help you out for Medical school admissions, might look a but good but that’s it. I had taken one or two weeks of this medical class in sophomore year, and honestly it was very simple and boring. I had learned most of it already in regular health class, and switched quickly to AP EURO. But in STUCO honeslt there really won’t be much academic to do, just helping out the school, etc. So should I run, for an officer position (probs treasurer or historian) regardless of the RESULTS? Heck, does being an officer really benefit you in college admission? I mean of course I am going to be part of other organizations and clubs. Should I wait for running elections in senior year, when everything is relaxed and easy. Or not do it all. Elections are in less than 24 hours I need advice and good one. Again, I might become a lawyer when i grow up or pursue the medical field.
My school’s class/school officers (and you have to take a “regular” class for that at our school) usually attend Ivies, top privates, or top publics. Obviously they have other things going for them, but think about it: there are only a few graduating class/school officers per year as opposed to many more people in your health club. Which one is more unique?
Also, unless you’re hoping to get into a direct med program, no medical school will look at your high school record.
