I have looked through other threads but haven’t found this specific question. D20 will be attending a school instate, though outside our local area. I have spoken with the provider and coverage is not an issue for us as they offer an “away from home” option for college students with the same coverage we have at home. My issue is in filling out the form for the waiver, which is due in July. They state coverage must be available until 7/31/2021 and the form asks for the date the policy expires. DH’s employer has a contract that runs from 10/1-9/30 but if I put 9/30/2020, they won’t approve the waiver as she won’t be covered under the current one through next July. Employer says the offerings will be the same after they renew this fall so can I put 9/30/2021?? We can’t be the only ones with a benefit year that doesn’t coincide with a school year so I am wondering what others do.
We contacted the health office. The nursing staff are very familiar with the insurance and forms. You can contact the health office and give them your question and I’m sure they can tell you what to put on the form.
I agree that the health offices of Us are very familiar with employer policies and generally helpful. My H was also on an annual policy, Jan 1 - Dec 31. I was able to get BCBS private insurer to write me a letter every year saying our kids had coverage that met all the Us requirements that would run thru the time period the U wanted. We got a waiver every year except the year S was going to age out of the policy by turning 22 during his SR year (pre-Obamacare). We bought him insurance from the U that calendar year and then a version of an individual policy until he was again covered by our family policy in January (after Obamacare kicked in with coverage until he aged out at 26).
