I was reminded by the health insurance call thread. I have been getting scam calls regarding student loan payoffs on my cell which wasn’t ever active when the kids, all long graduated, were in school. Last week, I got 2 calls within 3 hours AND since I was in Australia, these came through in the middle of my sleep. Great panic thinking it was those back home in some sort of emergency! I block the numbers, but the calls (same voice, same opening line) just come back on a new number. Any suggestions? Anyone else feel targeted?
Same here! I constantly get calls about paying off student loans and I have none. It doesn’t matter how many times I block they keep coming. It is so annoying. On our landline we almost exclusively get nothing but sales calls. Every. Single. Day. I rarely give out my cell number yet I am starting to get sales calls on my cell too.
Can’t something be done? Years ago in NYS we had a “do not call list.” You registered your number and they stopped. What has happened? I realize we can’t solve the great problems of the world but someone must be able to do something about this?
I don’t get scam calls overseas, but my mother gets so many that she often hesitates to answer the phone when I call her.
I used to get them. One time I pressed the number to talk to an operator. I told them that I am a financial aid director & I wanted to know how they got my number, since I do not have student loans. They hung up on me & I haven’t been bothered since (by the loan scammers, anyway).
