Hey all,

I need student loans for to pay for cost of living expenses and for various reasons I can’t have them show up on my tuition bill (I am under the under the impression that most people who need such money get it by having the loan paid to their school and then getting their school to give them a refund check). How do I do that?

Thanks for the help.

Is this the right forum to ask this question?

The only type of loan I am aware of as an FA Adminstrator is a alternative loan but even that will vary depending on the alternative loan lender. Some of the lenders send the funds to the school, others will send the funds to the student.

One word of caution…even if the alternative loan is paid directly to you, you are required to declare the loan to your financial aid office. Total aid, which includes alternative loans, cannot exceed the total cost of attendance. The only type of loans that wouldn’t have to be declared to the FA Office are mortgages, equity loans, car loans or signature loans that do not have a student provision attached to them.

Thanks for the help!

I know that Astrive student loans provide loans directly to the student, but when you visit their website they have a popup that says due to the recession they are no longer certifying new student loans.

Monticello Student Loans also mails a check directly to you. [Monticello Student Loans | How to Apply](http://www.monticellostudentloan.com/student_loan/student_loan_information.aspx)
