Student Loans

Hi! So all of my schools basically cost the same in the long run about 30k each. I didnt get nay aid whatsoever and i was wondering 120k in student loans was way too much to take out in the end

YES. And YOU can’t take out that much without parents co-signing.

my parents would be helping me pay for my education at berkeley. its either pay up or go to a cal state. should i even appeal?

That’s too much to do in loans. But if your parents are going to pay some out of college savings and current income, that is another story. You can take up to 27k in student loans over the 4 years.

You might consider doing CC to UC route to save money.

You should talk to your parents about all this. I take it you are in-state and didn’t qualify for a cal grant? You say your parents are willing to help… how much help can they give you? Your initial figure is full-pay and with parents helping, you wouldn’t need that amount of loan anyway. Yes, 120 grand is too much to take out and you wouldn’t be allowed to anyway. Find out what the actual gap is between true cost and what your parents can help with. They worry about loans.

Cal states are good schools so certainly no shame it going that route or hitting a CC first.
