Is there a clear difference in student quality between ILR and CAS (I only compare these two because I am going to ILR and CAS has the lowest acceptance rate…I think). When I say student quality I basically mean intelligence.

I guess now there is since ur in ILR and you r asking this question…lol…no…i am just kidding
acceptance rate has nothing to do with intelligence. If you r interested in Hotel Management, u ll have to apply to hotel management which has a higher acceptance rate even if u r the smartest kid on earth. Same goes for all colleges.

That’s a good question.

In general, the students in Arts are brighter on average, but that’s due to the preponderance of students in the hard sciences and math. For social science majors in Arts, I don’t think there is much of a difference with ILR students.

If anything, the ILR students are going to be more pre-professional on average. I wrote a fair amount about this on another thread which you may be interested in:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1060120503-post9.htm

ILR student also tend to have an aversion to math, which is quite odd, as the vast majority of them scored a 4 or a 5 on the AP Calculus exams.

Keep in mind that there are different forms of intelligence. ILR students tend to exhibit a lot of interpersonal skills, which is reflected in the fields they go into: law, dispute resolution, etc., as well as the fact that they are very active in student government on campus.

Of course, don’t take the relative lack of grammar on this thread as any indication of Cornell student’s intelligence.

What about Human Ec and the other schools? Is Human Ec looked down upon? What about PAM?

Same deal, only HumEc has a lot of pretty smart biology and pre-med types as well.

Hum Ec is definitely looked down upon. Due to the preponderance of females in HumEC, the average height of a Hum Ec student is several inches shorter than the average height of a CAS student. Sometimes I get a neck cramp from trying to look Hum EC girls in the face.

Nice!!! Classes full of girls!

Speaking of which, HumEc is definitely the most… attractive of all of the colleges at Cornell.

hey, cayugared, that link didn’t work, could I please get the name of the thread? Thanks for the input.

CayugaRed2005, the concerns that you had when entering ILR are identical to the concerns I have now…interesting. What do you do now (you can pm me if you want).
