Student travel company

Any recourse against a travel company that adds a $100 charge after we were paid up?

We paid in full for a spring break trip to Spain for S (actually, he paid every bit of it) on Dec. 1, the due date, and now the company has changed the trip and added a $100 charge. I never received a written statement saying this money was due. I looked at his account online just now, and the charge is there with a due date of TODAY, but the company doesn’t take credit cards. Apparently, the teacher told kids/parents at a meeting that there was an additional $100 charge, but nothing in writing from the company.

The price of this trip went up with gas prices but has not taken a corresponding drop with the drop in gas prices, of course.

I’m irritated.

We have had to pay an extra $50-100 a couple of times for a “fuel surcharge”. However, I don’t remember it coming as a surprise, it seems like the teacher told us it was a possibility or it was there somewhere in the smaller print.
