Student Traveling Abroad Following Injury

D just fractured wrist over weekend. Arm is in a sling and will take 6-8 weeks to heal. Fortunately, it should heal on its own as long as she is careful and no cast is needed.
She leaves for Paris 1/6. She may need a little assistance with her bag upon arrival and will need an orthopedist in Paris. Any suggestions for how to manage the air travel and other tips?

Thank you.

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s injury. I suggest that she take along her medical records (if possible), stock up on all necessary prescription and nonprescription medications before leaving the United States, and obtain a letter from her health-care provider about the medications and carry that letter with her in her carry-on luggage. Good luck!

There are several services that will ship your bag ahead to your destination. That might be a good option. https://www.sendmybag.com

Is she attending a program sponsored by a US university? If so, reach out to them for recommendations of physicians they’ve had contact with in the past. I would think they would be able to point you in the right direction.

While she is here, ask her doc if she will need physical therapy when healed and perhaps she can see one while home that could give her a list of exercises to do when she is ready. (Maybe ortho there will take care of it but not sure how prevalent PT is anywhere else, but it can be important to healing). They could show her how to do them now with her good wrist if there is any concern of her finding or having time to see one there. Not to worry you but wrists can be tricky and you want proper range of motion when healed. With proper instructions she could do it on her own over there. Good luck, I am sure this is a bit stressful for you. Hugs.
