<p>Holmes Onwukaife from Texas turned down a scholarship offer from Harvard to play football for Florida State.

<p>Parents of boys who play football can vouch for the fact that a lot of sacrifices are made to play football and an incredible amount of blood, sweat, and tears goes into training and practices. This type of dedication develops mental strength and determination that serves players well in all areas of life. This guy is following his dreams, and as the previous poster stated, he will probably be successful in everything he pursues.</p>

<p>Chances of making it to the NFL are much greater at fsu. He did pass up a great education at Harvard though. Football was his ticket into Harvard and he passed. </p>

<p>Why? Just because he turned down Harvard? As somebody stated previously, FSU is much better for football, and if that’s what he’s after, then good for him.</p>

<p>The guy is smart because he knows he has a chance of making more money in the NFL.</p>

<p>With a 1340, a respectable score but extremely low for Harvard, it is rather obvious the only reason he got into Harvard was football. </p>

<p>As such, it makes more sense to go to the school that gives him the best chance to play in the NFL someday.</p>

<p>Don’t underestimate the power of URM, intangible. Compounded with football talent, I don’t doubt he could have gotten in.</p>

<p>Besides, didn’t Rolle have a similar score and turn down Stanford, a peer school?</p>

<p>I meant to say that I don’t doubt that he could have gotten in regardless of football talent. Mainly due to the URM+SAT combo. And I think that holds true for Rolle even moreso, seeing as his stats were likely a bit stronger.</p>

<p>With a 1340 SAT, it is safe to say the he would rank in the bottom part of the admitted class. At FSU, he probably ranks in the top 25%. At FSU, he would get more opportunities for meaningful research. At Harvard he would be an assistant’s assistant. </p>

<p>This kid is not only intelligent, but wise. A Harvard diploma is powerful, but a meaningful position on a research project will carry even more weight towards getting into Med school.</p>

<p>And I think I can confidently say that Harvard is not for everyone who gets in.</p>

<p>Uh yeah, no kidding… obviously it says a lot about his intentions, doesn’t it?</p>

<p>FSU may not be as prestigious as Harvard, but not everyone is a prestige whore. We’re not FL residents and my son declined an admission offer from an ivy to attend a FL public. Some people know what they want from a school and seek out the school that best meets their needs. Onwukaife chose FSU, and I’m sure he’ll be happy and successful there.</p>
