Hello to you all, I’ve just booked a flight from Student Universe and was wondering whether the E-ticket I need to show at the airport is the “Itinerary” form on the “My Trip” Tab in my account. If not, when will the E-ticket be emailed to me? Thank you very much.
E-tickets aren’t usually mailed to you. There should be a confirmation Number or some type of boarding pass number. Usually you use a kiosk to check in and scan your passport, or hand the reservation confirmation number to the ticket agent with your passport and he’ll print your boarding pass at the airport.
Yes, your confirmation/reservation number should be on the itinerary form. Print it out.
@twoinanddone So that means I just only need to print out the itinerary form which has a confirmation number (is it the “Invoice Number”?) in it and they’ll print out my boarding pass right? Sorry, I’m still a freshman and I got like tons of things to worry about :’( (please excuse my stupid and annoying questions).
Terms to understand:
Itinerary:
This just means the schedule & flight numbers. It may or may not have the eticket number printed on it-- you need to read it and check.
Eticket:
Usually a 13-digit number for the ticket of one passenger, that is stored in the airline’s computer database. Most airlines are going to using an eticket instead of needing an actual paper ticket. An eticket is not the same thing as a boarding pass. An eticket just means you’ve paid for a seat.
Reservation code or Record locator or **Confirmation code **:
Usually a 5 or 6 character mix of alphabetic characters & numbers that describes the names of the passenger(s) reserved for a particular itinerary. It’s possible to have a reservation code, but not be a confirmed ticketed passenger (you don’t get confirmed and given an eticket number until you’ve after you’ve paid for the ticket). Multiple passengers can be on one reservation.
Any type of company might have an invoice number. This is for the accounting people to keep track of your payment.
**Boarding pass **
This is hardcopy card/paper/document that allows you to board a plane. It has the seat number aboard the plane. Nowadays you also need it to get past airport security and immigration (for int’l flights). Many airlines will now let you check in online and print your boarding pass yourself from their website by entering your eticket number or the reservation code. Printing it ahead of time will save u time & hassle at the airport.
There should be some kind of confirmation number on the itinerary or confirmation receipt which usually also included the itinerary. The confirmation number is usually an odd combination of letters and numbers, maybe five or six long. You might need that same number to log in to your actual reservation when you want to look at it to check for any changes, select seats or whatever. Print those pages and you should be fine.
I am not certain how Student Universe works, but with other providers you receive an email 24 hours before flight departure that allows you to formally “check in”. Once you do that you get your boarding passes online to print out.
