UC GPA: Not sure (I have classes from an OOS University) Currently, I have a 3.545 at my CCC though!
Major Pre-reqs Completed: All offered at my CCC but the physics series. Many of the pre-reqs are not articulated at my CCC, but I have some that were not offered here that were completed at Colorado State University. 1 Semester of GenChem and GenBio.
Intended Major: Marine Biology B.S./Biology B.S.
TAG?: No
IGETC?: All but the CSU portions…Did not apply to any CSU’s. :)

Attending Transfer Admit Day? (if admitted): I wish. Santa Cruz isn’t around my neck of the woods! :(

Reflection
Strengths: My personal experiences have shaped me into the successful person I have become today, GPA, being “emancipated”. Strong upward trend in grades.
Weaknesses: Not having several of my major prep courses completed. Courses were not articulated between my CCC and UCSC (my #1) so I didn’t take them, but they did have equivalents at the other campuses I applied to. Didn’t bother to look until a few weeks ago!
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Haven’t heard back yet. I would wager and say my GPA if anything.
General Comments: Hope I hear back soon! Good luck everyone!

Did you consider applying to UCLA? Your GPA was right around their average, 3.53, for those admitted to Marine Biology last year. I’m not sure if their Marine Bio program is as well regarded as UCSB or UCSC, but I’d assume it’d be nice to have that option for somewhere as academically renowned as UCLA.

@LawlKing: Did you apply to UCSD? I’m sorry, I totally forgot if you did or not…but we’ll probably get our admission decisions at the same time LOLOLOL

^^Yup, I did. All the UC’s!!!

Pending: UCI, UCD

UC GPA: 3.25
Major Pre-reqs Completed: All for both majors
Intended Major: Psychology and biochemistry
TAG?: Yes, UCI
IGETC?: Yes
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):None during community college
Job/Work Experience: Dental lab
Personal Statement: lol so bad
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female

Weaknesses: GPA and personal statement.
General Comments: Good Luck everyone! I hope to hear from UCI!

I’m studying at the UCI Science library as we speak

@dilapidated- I was kind of on the fence about which major to apply to in the first place- Bio or Marine Bio. I didn’t even look to see if courses articulated between my campus and UCLA…they probably do, but its all good. I do appreciate you wondering though!

On a side note- You know how they ask you on the applications if you have a relative that has attended UC___? Do you think that actually possess any merit? I guess what I’m specifically asking is what (if any) kind of advantage does that give you? Only curious because I had an aunt that graduated from UCLA and a VERY successful uncle that graduated from Cal. Heck, at one point in time he was the head economist for Exonn Mobile and was approached by the US Government to be the treasurer of the United States. Just a random inquiry.

@lawlking whats your first choice for transfer?

@kingdomroa
I think if you completed the pre-reqs: General Bio, General Chem, Calc, and 1 semester of Ochem your GPA would’ve had you in at UCLA for Marine Bio. General Bio’s impacted and the admitted GPA was a bit higher around 3.7 last year.

As for the family question on the UC app, I only remember it asking in the scholarship section. As a public institution I don’t think the UC’s are allowed to give any sort of consideration for being a “legacy” like many private universities do. In fact, I think that’d be extremely controversial because it’d be discriminatory in favor of families that have had better access to higher education. I think if you have family members that attended certain UCs there were certain scholarships and awards you were eligible for, which is why it asked.

@Sewup. My first choice was SB, but getting second thoughts to Irvine.

@Ah! Forgot about that. I think you’re right- It was for scholarship purposes. I remembered seeing it somewhere, but couldn’t pinpoint exactly where! Thanks for reminding me on that! As for UCLA…Its alright, LA has never really been my cup of tea. Part of the reason my heart is set on UCSC is because my boyfriend is up there. Sounds silly, I know. But I’m over doing the two year long distance relationship thing. Granted, that’s not the only reason I want to go to UCSC, but it is definitely a motivator! Btw, I enjoyed watching you and asphyxiac go over your baffling similarities earlier. Made me laugh! lol

Ummmm, I just found it spooky. In fact, I’m starting to think asphyxiac is a stalker… lol just kidding.

I think UCSC would be a pretty good choice. One of my Biology professor’s went to graduate school there for Marine Biology and she’s always talking about how great their program is. I also had a friend that applied for Marine Biology at all the UCs (save Berkeley) last year and she felt UCSB and then UCSC had the top two programs among the UCs and she really put a lot of research into her decision. I think it had something to do with UCLA’s program not being accredited? Anyway, I think if Marine Bio’s your choice you really can’t go wrong with UCSC.

Accepted: CSULB
Pending: UCLA (TAP), UCI (TAG), UCSD, Cal, USC

Objective:
UC GPA: 3.57
Major Pre-reqs Completed: Will have all completed by the end of spring (except for Berkeley… they have very different pre-reqs for English and I will have only completed about half of theirs)
Intended Major: English (2nd choice major is Comparative Lit for UCLA, UCI, USC)
TAG?: Yes, UCI
IGETC?: Completing my last course this semester

Subjective:
Extracurriculars: Student Ambassador, English Club (Founder/President), Alpha Gamma Sigma (Historian), etc.
Job/Work Experience: I have worked since I was 18. I worked full-time from the age of 20 until 24. I’m now 26 and work part-time.
Volunteer/Community service: Reading Partners, Circle K, Animal shelters… not as many hours as I would have liked, but I work a lot.
Personal Statement: I’d say it was strong. I spoke about my experiences while working and trying to go back to school and how I kept myself motivated.

Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
State: CA
School Type: CCC
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: My EFC is 0. That says it all, I think.
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.):

Reflection
Strengths: I think my app shows that I’m very self-motivated and mature. I have a strong upward trend as I’ve had straight A’s for the past four semesters.
Weaknesses: I have many, many W’s on my transcript from the years when I worked full-time. I also wish I had had more time to polish my personal statement.
General Comments: After waiting so many years to finally be able to transfer, I feel scared that I won’t get accepted to my top choices. Of course, I am just thankful for being motivated enough to return to school, and to have the opportunity to transfer at all. I’ve just struggled a lot to get where I am now, and getting accepted to a great school would make me feel like all of my hard work paid off. I’m also kind of wishing that I would have TAG’d to SD instead of UCI, but I was worried that I might not be able to pull up my GPA by the end of last fall. I passed the 3.5 required with my fall grades. Oh well. Live and learn! Good luck to everyone! Hopefully the next month before decisions will fly by! :)

Great thread, great idea. Here’s where I am. California native, but (at least to best of my knowledge), considered out of state for admission purposes to UCs. Only UCs applied to are UCB and UCLA (I know, limiting). Started weak, around 2.9 at University of Michigan. Next semester, 3.5. Last semester, straight A’s. Many good and many bad points here, but straight upward trajectory, in terms of grades. Additionally, extracurriculars were strong last year and good this year, with straight A’s and 16 units last semester being taken on top of a 40+ hour work week (35-40 hours in full time job, 10-15 in work study job every week). Personal statements very strong, very relevant to political science major at both. Prereqs are ALMOST all there, to best of my ability, as there is an interstate translation issue (meaning not everything may transfer, is offered, etc.)
Very nervous, but think I have at least SOME shot. Also came in with several classes from Pierce and Valley (CCCs) taken while in high school.
