Far too many students I know about that want to go on study abroad seem to consider academics as secondary to the travel and tourism aspects of study abroad.
Some, if not most students seem to have the “who goes to the most cities” mentality. Depending on the rigor of the destination vs that of the origin, as well as the academic structure of colleges abroad, one can be all too tempted to slack off in the classroom (even more so when study abroad grades don’t count towards GPA at home and hence are pass/fail) to travel as much as possible…
