Study abroad and double major

I am an economics major at UT and want to study abroad. I was thinking either London, Sydney or somewhere in South Africa. I’m leaning towards Sydney though. Any input or suggestions?

Also, I think I might want to double major in philosophy. Since both are in CoLA is that an easy double major or is that going to put more stress on me? And is philosophy a “hard” major? Note that I’m also doing the McComb’s Business Foundations program as a business minor.

Thanks. Hook 'em!

Sydney is a mad place, will give you plenty of time to travel around Australia and New Zealand. Which University?

I think the only uni in sydney that UT has an exchange program with is UNSW which is pretty good.
Awesome lifestyle, WAY more laid back than the US. I have no experience with their economics program.

One thing that may appeal is the drinking age is 18, kings cross is awesome as far as nightlife. You can find a bar/club packed out any night of the week.

I don’t know if philosophy is a hard major but it’s not as hard as economics. I took an intro to philosophy class (not at UT) and thought it was weird, a little complicated but easy.

I heard UNSW in Australia is good but I was more leaning (interested in) towards University of Sydney. It’s extremely large and has 10,000 foreign exchange students. We can only go to foreign schools that have a program set up with UT? Or does that just make it easier? Or what?

Thanks.

If it is a UT program, it is easier to transfer the credits so you can use them at UT. (Watch out for classes that are not considered in-residence classes if you are getting close to being able to graduate.)

You should talk to the GIAC office. It is called the Graduate and International Admissions Office, but they are the ones who know, for example, what the difference is between if you are taking a class at UNSW or you are taking a class at U of Sydney: what do you need to do to use the class at UT, who determines what it counts as and how is this determined, how are the grades handled. It is across Whitis from Kinsolving.
Or you could call them.

I would recommend you use a UT affiliated program, so you are more certain to get the credit you expect/need for everything you take. Especially since you trying for two majors plus a certificate - you don’t have “time” for a lot of extra electives that don’t count toward graduation in some way.

(If you can’t double major, maybe philosophy could be your minor. I think everyone in the College of Liberal Arts needs a minor.)

id say its 10000 foreign student rather than foreign exchange. (big diff in attitudes).
If your going overseas don’t you want to experience the local culture rather than find a group of americans to hang out with.
English is the main language in australia so you may have to adapt to that coming from the usa.
