For current students/parents of current students–
How hard is it to do a semester abroad at UMass? Are the people in the department easy to work with? Do a lot of people study abroad? Any info you have on studying abroad/your experience with the department would be much appreciated! This is a major factor for me in deciding where I want to go for school in the fall.
I am currently signing up to transfer to Japan for a year and the process so far has been great! The campus shares it’s study abroad programs with many other campuses. This way you get a great selection of programs to choose from. Below I have linked the list of international programs and the main page of UMass Amherst’s study abroad program.

@Greenman57 thank you so much that is very helpful! did you know you wanted to study abroad before coming to umass or was it something you decided after you already got there?
@laurrodes - I love traveling and have always loved it. Therefore when applying to UMass I knew that, given the opportunity, I would take a semester to a year to travel and study abroad. Study abroad seems to be quite easy to organize here.
PS- I hope you appreciate having the chance to travel! Many people stay in the US all their lives since it can be quite pricy to most people.
