Study Abroad or Vice President position?

I was thinking of studying abroad next semester, the first semester of my junior year. However, elections are in a few weeks for a club on campus and I think I have a good shot at getting Vice President. My tenure would be a one year term.

However, if I went on study abroad, I would only be able to fulfill the responsibilities of my position for half of the year next year.

I haven’t told anyone in the club that I’m thinking of doing study abroad but it’s probably a d*** move to get elected vice president and then be gone the entire next semester.

Anyone have any advice?

I don’t know where you are going study abroad, but there is no question that you should go study abroad because you’ll remember your experiences in another country more rather than serving as VP and slapping it on your resume. If anything, going study abroad looks better than having some position (that’s not even president). Don’t lose the opportunity of a life time because of some pressure you feel that you should do a position to put it on your resume. Go abroad and have the time of your life.

I would go with studying abroad. It will be a very unique experience, and as you said, you think you have a “good shot” at VP. If you don’t get VP, then it’s kind of a bummer, yknow? :-/ I’m sure studying abroad will prove an eye-opening and absolutely amazing experience.

Study abroad is way more influential on how you view the world and what you will become as an adult.

Run for election with the clear message that you are likely to be gone one term. If elected, then you were chosen in spite of it and you don’t need to feel like you are shirking.
