Study Abroad Program

Can someone tell me how easy it is to study abroad at Michigan, particularly for an Engineering major?

Currently, there are around 25% students with abroad experience (either study or internship) at CoE. The school is trying to increase it to 100%.

Is this something that I would have to start thinking about as soon as I get on campus? Do major requirements get in the way often?

Many students do the study abroad in Summer to avoid delay in graduation, but if you have enough AP credits you may spend a semester doing that.

It’s not exactly a real effort, they’ve not done anything to try to ensure that there are enough courses to take. I also very highly doubt that 25% number. Do you have a source?

If you want to take classes that contribute to your major, yes, but chances are good that it’s impossible already. If you are really serious about it and want to take classes that contribute to your requirements, I’d recommend holding off on the Math/Science as long as possible, because in most cases that’s what there is. Otherwise, if you just want to take anything, then you have some time to plan. It’s up to you.

That is what they said at the engineering featured lecture at Campus Day and Spring Welcome Day in a powerpoint presentation. I attended both within the last few weeks and the 2 professors said the same thing.

If you have enough AP credits, you will be able to find time to study abroad. If not, I’d recommend saving your humanities credits for that semester abroad so that you don’t have to try to take engineering classes at a foreign university.
My freshman year roommate was in engineering and studied abroad over the summer. She did an engineering program in China and loved it!
