Study Abroad Programs

What is the best study abroad program to go through?
I’d love to hear from anyone with personal experience.

Website suggestions?

I’m thinking about study abroad too! I’m in hs though, so idk any college study abroad programs, but here are ones I know of:

-Rotary Club
-Rotary Club/ESSEX (Eastern Students Exchange–this isn’t national) [Eastern States Student Exchange - ESSEX - Eastern States Student Exchange Website](http://www.exchangestudent.org/)
-School Year Abroad (my personal favorite but $$$) [School Year Abroad - Community Home](http://www.sya.org)
-Youth For Understanding [Youth For Understanding](<a href=“Youth for Understanding - YFU”>http://www.yfu.org/)
-AFS (idk what it stands for) [AFS USA - Student Exchange Program](http://www.afsusa.org/usa_en/home)

Hope this helps!

oops, forgot one:

-Princeton Review [College Study Abroad Programs](College Study Abroad & Summer Programs | The Princeton Review)

AFS is horrible dont go through them, trust me. i went through them. horrrrrible.

All of these organizations are horrible, and charge way too much for what you’re getting (basically nothing but a crappy host family.) I went abroad through CIEE to Germany, and my first host family was absolutely wacko! The second family ended up being great, but nobody even checked them out first. I had a friend who went through YFU and hated it too, and ended up coming home early. Also, SYA (costs $41k) looks horrible, they don’t even have a decent website. If I were you I would look into Adventure Ireland, or Pacific Discovery. Maybe even a few Summer programs. I’ve heard good things about Rotary, but I would avoid paying more than $5k for anything where you live with a hostfamily, they’re just ripping you off!

I studied abroad through a language school (the Alliance Francaise) and have never regretted it! It was independent, inexpensive and allowed me to submerge myself in the culture. Plus it completed my language requirement.

I would definitely suggest a language school - practically all cities have at least one.

Where did you go Elizabelle? I had a friend who went to a language school in Quebec and spoke highly of her experince.

I went to L’Alliance Francaise in Paris, but I know that the Alliance is located all over the world - perhaps she went to the same one?

D will be studying through Arcadia University. They have an extensive Global studies program and accept students from other colleges. She is excited to study in Barcelona, but have the classes taught in English. She is not fluent in spanish, but still wanted the experience. So far they have been excellent in setting her up and helping us negotiate the financial aid, transfer of credits etc.
She also did an intersession last year through Fairfield University and had a great experience in Florence Italy.

D1 will be a visiting student at Oxford next semester. Her college had her apply through OSAP.
