How effective is a power of attorney from US when student is abroad? Under a worst-case scenario and a parent needed to make decisions for an adult child who is out of the country, what legal authority will a power of attorney from the US provide?
If I recall correctly our daughter had to sign a form allowing for the school representative to by allowed to make emergency medical decisions but that we would be called.
I also think it depends on the laws of the country in which your child is studying.

My best suggestion is to clarify with the Study Abroad office at the student’s school.
