Study Abroad

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the program/programs recognized by Pitt. do a significant amount of people study abroad? I’m interested in going to Spain for a semester or maybe go during the summer one year…i’m in ap spanish in high school right now (will probably get a 4 on the exam) so does anyone know if there is a min number of spanish courses i’ll have to take to be eligible?

I do not know specifics, but they run information sessions during PittStart and orientation that explain study abroad. Then the departments have sessions during the school year about their specific programs. One nice thing about Pitt is that the summer session is so long, you could possibly study abroad in the summer–it runs from May 1 to about the third week in August.

Hi, I’m a peer advisor this year at Pitt. I’m so glad that you’re asking about study abroad! I went abroad two times and absolutely loved it! most of my friends have gone as well, and have all said they had great times. The study abrod office (SAO) is very welcoming and very willing to work with you to find the program that is best. they are located in the 8th floor of the WIlliam Pitt Union (right across from the Cathedral of Learning) and can be found here: [University of Pittsburgh Study Abroad Office](http://www.abroad.pitt.edu/) A list of recognized programs can be found under the students tab.

I did the summer session as well as a full spring session. I really reccomend both for different reasons. Summer for the time to relax and learn more about the culture and sight see. A full term gives you more time to get to know the place where you’re studying and maybe find a second home. At the end of my second trip, tourists started coming in, and I found myself complaining right along with the natives!

Feel free to contact anyone in the office to ask more specific questions!

thanks. and is it possible to take courses in the summer programs to fill elective credits?

Of course! I definitely did. Make sure you talk to the Study Abroad Office to get the necessary paperwork started before you go, so that you wont have take classes that wont transfer.
