Study: College Students More Narcissistic

Damn, I don’t even have a myspace or facebook account…I need to work on being more nacissistic o_O

Ok. but see there’s a very clear difference between instilling self esteem in kids and creating narcissistic behavior. half of those myspace chicks wouldn’t be so desperate for attention if they had an ounce or seven of self esteem. its the distinct LACK of self esteem which sparks the kind of behavior that this guy is describing as narcissistic.

telling a kid that they’re special and can achieve anything in life doesn’t breed narcissism. however, obviously allowing a kid to do anything they want without boundaries and discipline might. i think that its two totally different things and i think this guy is on crack.

people our age are entitled and selfish because of a lack of structure growing up, not because they have too much self esteem. i’d argue that a great deal of the behavior he’s attributing to narcissism, myspace included, is more a result of a lack of self esteem than an overgrown sense of self. people who are confident and happy with themselves and their lives don’t have to constantly be in the spotlight.

and competition isn’t bred by narcissism. competition, like i dont know, the competition to get into college, is a result of societal and economic shifts. we’re more competitive because WE HAVE TO BE. not because we’re any more narcissistic than any other previous generation.

^ what allie said.

Too many people wanting the same thing… surely some will fall flat.
