I am a parent who is back at community college. I use quizlet a lot. I was wondering if anyone had any quizlet tricks/tips something maybe a little different than the obvious on how you use quizlet or other online flash cards.
Also wanted to ask about lists. I am taking Anatomy and often the questions revolve around a list. For example:
There are 4 signs of inflammation. The test questions will often be something like- “which of the following is not a sign of inflammation” So you need to know all 4 .I never know quite the best way to memorize lists or to use quizlet to memorize lists. It is hard to make separate cards for each item if the definition is all the same (sign of inflammation)
The best way to use quilt for that would be to use the write function. This makes you write the term/definition so you could write the entire thing as an answer instead of just multiple choice or something. Using the test mode and setting it to all matching can be useful as well though not necessarily for your situation.
I personally don’t use quizlet a whole lot; typically I write physical notecards for the terms instead of digitally making them. Physical writing is proven to help learning much more than typing and just making the notecards can help. When I want to learn them I divide them into groups of ten or so and learn one group, move onto the next group, review both, etc until all the groups are done.
Memorizing wise I find it’s best to learn the concept instead of the actual definition (i.e. Why does this indicate inflammation could be occurring?). This really makes it easier to remember things for me and will make you a better test taker as well since the exact definitions aren’t going to be on the test.
If that doesn’t work I somehow associate the term and the definition in any way possible (i.e. They sound similar, make up a story, sing a song, make an acronym). For lists this can be especially useful to make a sentence or acronym somehow related to that term. For inflammation if you could rewrite the signs to start with F.L.A.M. or something that could really help.
I used to use Quizlet for studying psychology, biology, and chemistry, but I felt that I wasn’t benefiting the most from using it. I ended up writing out my notes or printing out the uploaded lecture notes and writing on those. I found that writing makes me memorize things much more easily.
Another good way to memorize is using mnemonics and/or acronyms. For my biology class, I would do this and come up with some nsfw ones (but they helped out a lot!).
In your case, I would follow what @Glorfindel1 said. Just make sure you can balance between home life and school work so that you have time to write down the information and remember it the best way you can.
