"Study: Shingles Vaccine Linked to Slower Biological Aging in Older Adults"

The study was done with people who were vaccinated with the older Zostavax (live attenuated) before the newer Shingrix (recombinant) became available. Zostavax is no longer available in the US, presumably due to low demand because Shingrix was found to be more effective.

H and I both got Zostervax shortly after it was available & then 2 shingles vaxes. I’m fine if in addition to protecting us they also help slow our aging.

So the vaccine itself is not identified in the abstract. Do we know if the Shingrix has a similar effect? The study also mentions the flu vaccine. How do they differentiate benefits from that vs shingles vaccine? Need more info!

Yay, I’ve had both!

The full study manuscript pdf is available on this page: https://academic.oup.com/biomedgerontology/advance-article/doi/10.1093/gerona/glag008/8430804

Yes I read that site but didn’t see a vaccine specified.

You read the 41 page manuscript (pdf available on the page above)? I haven’t read the whole thing, but the authors do speculate that Shingrix would provide similar benefits, but all of the study participants received Zostavax, not Shingrix.

Just gonna say that having shingles would take several years off my life just due to stress…
