I am a college student from Massachusetts that am starting to seriously consider studying at the American University in Dubai. I would love to hear advice from anyone who has studied at any university in Dubai or visited the UAE. Is it a good place to study? What is the culture like? Is there an evident division between Westerners and Arabs? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I too am really interested in studying in Dubai. I love the city, and I dream of going there! Any info would be great!!!

I am a high school student in Dubai. I think you should definitely study here for a term or two. It is an amazing place with a very low crime rate. There are numerous tourist attractions and the entire city is so new and exciting. Well I have heard that American University of Dubai is kind of messed up since it is not exactly that established but its good enough for a term or two :D

My friend lived in Dubai for a year and she said it’s one of the nicest, warmest culture there is. She showed me photos which are absolutely gorgeous, with beaches and palm trees. Plus they just opened the biggest mall in the world. It’s basically a high-tech, innovative, expensive, glitzy land. There are plenty of rich people and celebrities everywhere, and it just sounds like paradise to me.
she said there’s lots of westerners and is one of the most friendly as far as tension goes.

There are many University in Dubai offers Programs & Courses like MBA, Arts, Engineering for Indian, International students for free, Scholarships in Dubai. Dubai is the bustle of a busy port city and international business center with a reverence for tradition to create a destination abundant with opportunities for adventurous study abroad.

I was brought up in Dubai and am currently going to school in Boston… Dubai’s great between the months of October to March but any other time and you’ll be roasting! It’s way too hot… While I have my issues with living for a longer time in the city, I think it’d be a great experience for a few months so def check it out. However, if you are expecting an authentic middle eastern experience, then don’t expect that from Dubai. It is a modern city that is quite westernized. 80% of its population are foreigners… If you want a true middle eastern experience, probably head to Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, etc!

Hope this helps… Also, I’m not sure if you are planning to transfer to American University of Dubai or just doing a semester there… I’d support doing a semester there but not transferring there… AUD does not compare to universities here in the US!

^ And what proportion of those 80% are treated like slaves and have had their passports confiscated?

Are you sure you want to go to Dubai? You might have some moral qualms about it
