Studying Drug Policy - PhD

Does anyone know if there are any good schools for researching/studying Drug Policy? Since this is pretty specialized,I figured it may even need to be who are the leading scholars in the field. I’m assuming, public policy/political science is the kind of programs that will cover this.

If you know anything, it would be very helpful.

Thanks!

Social policy programs will probably be very good for this kind of work.

Brandeis has a social policy Ph.D program, and Princeton has a Ph.D program in social policy as well (but I think it has to be done jointly with another social science field). Those are the kinds of programs that will be good for drug policy (which to be honest is a HUGE field). Harvard has a Ph.D program in social policy as well, that’s done jointly with sociology or government. Berkeley’s law school has a doctoral program in social policy and jurisprudence.

You may also find a lot of people studying drug policy in schools of public health, particularly in the health policy departments of such schools. There also may be some studying them in schools of social work. It just depends on what angle you want to take looking at the drug policies, but public health and social policy will be the fields most ripe for that.

To find specific schools with strong researchers doing drug policy work, read some articles that interest you and note who wrote them, then find out where they teach. And there was a fellowship that was practically begging for applicants who were researching some aspect of substance use and abuse – I got the e-mail at least 3 times. I’ll see if I can dredge up the name.
