So I’m studying for the SAT II Bio using Kaplan’s atm. I read each section and then I take the quiz at the end of each section. But for some reason it seems like I always get like 60-70% ish questions right at the end of each section. Is this normal? Cause I’m aiming for 700+ and I’m kind of worried that I’m only getting like 60% right for the quizzes Kaplan has at the end of each chapter immediatly after reading the chapter.

So basically I’m wondering how exactly did you guys study for your SAT II Bio? And if you used Kaplan’s how’d you do on the quiz thingies at the end of each chapter? And what did you end up getting on the real thing? (and what was your scores you got on your practice tests on Kaplan)?

i used kaplan… i personally thought it was very good, since everything on the test was in the book… so you should be fine if u read the book cover to cover. i heard princeton review is a good supplement as well.

i didn’t try any of the practice tests- i used the one in the blue subject test one that college board published.

yea absorbing information after reading it just once is hard but once you read each section over twice or three times it will be easy. believe me. just read twice at least and you’ll find that the questions are definetly easier than they look and that even though you may not be able to recall info if you ask yourself something, you will be able to remember things when you look at the question and the choices.

Really, the only thing you can do is read it over and over until you’ve got everything down. If you are only getting 60-70% you are not absorbing the info and you need to read it again.

For the quizzes at the end of each section I would get either a perfect score or one or two wrong. But this was only after I made sure that I understood what I just read.

“But this was only after I made sure that I understood what I just read.”

How do you make sure you understood what you just read?

I usually THINK I know what I just read, but it turns out I don’t (since I’m getting 60-70% right on the quizzes). And I’m actually “reading” not just skimming over it, it actually takes me like 1 hour to read 30-40 pages. :S

An hour to read 30-40 pages of bio is not bad actually.

Well to make sure that I’ve understood what I’ve read, when I’m about 3-5 pages past the topic, I try to recall in my brain what it was about and ask little questions like “Which types of transport require energy?” and then answer them.

i found barron’s to be ridiculously easy. i took regular biology two years ago, and was only 2 weeks into ap biology when i took a barron’s practice test. i got a 710. that’s just wrong. on the kaplan practice tests, even after i had been studying for a few weeks, i was still getting in the 500-range.

i said to hell with the both of them and used the sparknotes study guide. i originally bought kaplan but found its explanations way too complicated. sparknotes did lack a lot of detail…but i took the bio sat ii on saturday, and found it pretty easy after only reading the sparknotes book for 3 days or so. it’s great if you want to cram, i guess.

i took ap bio last year and used the kaplan one
i found it really useful and helped me a lot with the AP too, it’s a good review but if you’re missing a lot of questions you might want to go over some notes too…
