studying in honors quad?

When we went on our campus tour, we were told that students literally camp out in the library near finals to hold a spot to study and plug in their laptop. Is there anywhere else to study during finals? What about the honors quad-- are there study lounges that are quiet enough, or are the honors dorms quiet enough to allow studying?

Yes, there are many places for you to study during finals, as long as you avoid the obvious places that everyone else goes to, or just hope you’re lucky and go to those places.

For obvious places, I mean places like the FAC, or PCL. It really gets down to knowing places everyone else doesn’t think of. Some medium-busy places in reference to those two would be places like the GSB/CBA atrium, and the 10 or so other less traveled libraries.

There are study lounges in every dorm. If you are worried about things not being quite enough for you to study, you may want to invest in some “noise-canceling headphones”.

Actually, I am asking for my son. The noise canceling headphones sound like a good graduation present.

In the Quad, there are multiple places to study. Each of the 3 dorms has a “living room” which is just a big room with couches and tables where you can study (the Andrews one has a TV as well). There is the Q which has pool tables and a TV but also has places you can study, there is the Blanton attic which has study space, and there is the Joynes room which is open 24/7 (though the resources like books and films aren’t) and it’s also a great place to study. During finals there are 24/7 quiet hours.

Honestly one of the only places I’m actually productive is the Carothers living room. I’m strongly thinking of studying there next year even when I don’t live in the building.

I’m glad to hear about the 24/7 quiet hours during finals. The tour guide made trying to find a place to study during finals sound almost impossible.
