My D is taking a ballet class and needs me to order her a pair of ballet shoes, cheap! I went to zappo’s (after changing my password) and I’m confused. They have a pair for $28 but what size do I order. If she is a 6.5 should I order the 4.5? It says they run large.

Sorry for the stupid question but I’ve never bought a pair before.

Also does anyone know if I change my zappos password do I also have to change my 6pm password also. Or does it automatically change both since they are the same company. Ugh!

I am a student, not a parent, but I am a longtime ballet dancer, so I thought I might answer - first off, Zappo’s is not the best place to buy ballet shoes. I do not know what kind they sell, but they are definitely way overpriced. If you are going to order online (e.g. no opportunity to try them on at a dance store), your best bet is Discount Dance Supply. I have ordered for them from years with great results.

^^Agree completely. And if she ever gets to the toe shoe stage never buy those without being properly fitting in a high quality dance shop with an experienced fitter. Get suggestions from your studio on where to go. …for this type of item, even the ones above if you can go to the actual store that is better.

One or two times, my D was desparate for a pair of dance shoes and had no time to shop. Since zappos has free shipping home and back, we ordered about 4 different sizes of two brands and sent back all but one.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. She’s a senior in college and needs a pair of shoes to complete an elective requirement. She has never danced in her life and will never dance again (at least not in a ballet class). She is not a dancer but heard that half the football team takes this class and figures that she won’t look completely stupid lol!

I guess they require a pair of shoes. I thought I could buy a pair from zappos since I won’t have to pay for shipping. She’s already at school and we didn’t think about buying a pair before now. She doesn’t really have the time or inclination to go to a dance store.

My canvas ballet shoes always fit true to size. If they’re a little bit big its not a huge deal, especially for classes. Pointe shoes are the ones you go down two sizes for. I wear a 7.5 in real shoes, 5 in pointe shoes, but a 7-8 in canvas shoes.

Cannot help you with the dance shoe selection, but can answer the question about passwords. You have to reset both Zappos and 6pm; restting one does not automatically reset the other.

Have D ask around school for local shops with reasonable prices (I know, an oxymoron!), so she can at least find size and brand/style. Or at least know what to mail order the next time if she needs another pair. Extrapolating from ballroom, running, and cycling shoes - there is little standardization in sizing, conversions between US, UK, and EU sizes are inconsistent, some brands are narrower/smaller toe box than others. Some shops will let you mail (or maybe scan & email?) them a foot tracing and they will figure size from that.

Buy multiple sizes and return the ones that don’t fit also works - check return policies, especially restocking fees!

Thanks, I was so confused about buying these shoes.

BB, thanks for the 6pm and zappos password, Ugh! What a mess!

My H thinks we need to reset all of our passwords and keep a notebook by the computer to keep them straight. I am so glad that my banking password is completely different than any other passwords but this is going to take a while.

Ugh! I just ordered her a couple pair of shoes from zappos. I don’t know what I did but I typed in the wrong address. Instead of her actual street address, it reads Apt C. That’s it!

So I can message with customer service reps, no problem, right. No, they are not available. I call the customer service number, sorry they can’t take my call either. I did email them, I hope it can be figured out before a shoe order goes to some random address that I goofed up.

I think that’s why everyone is talking about zappos. No shipping either way, 365 day return policy, and no restocking fee. Even though they may not be the best dance shoes, they’re probably OK for a non-dancer taking a single dance class.

I think Zappos announced it was shutting down its customer service lines temporarily because they would have been overwhelmed with calls about the security breach. Much as I love Zappos, this is not a week I would order from them–I think it must be chaotic there.

Off topic, but S has a friend who works in the online security field. He believes this sort of thing will happen more and more, as the online world–particularly US government agencies–is woefully unprepared to defend against it. Kinda scary. Unless I am required to, I never “sign up” at shopping websites, even those I use frequently. I’d rather re-enter my info each time than put my info into a permanent file.
