Stupid question but what does "Pre-Admit" mean?

Title says it all. I’ve tried to google but come up with nothing definitive. I’m specifically referencing University of Michigan…something about how Ross biz does pre-admit??

I apologize for my stupidity in advance lolol

I’m not completely sure, but pre-admit might mean a likely letter, in which the college or university sends you a letter that strongly hints at your acceptance, but they are forbidden to officially admit you. This is done quite a bit, and you can usually trust the likely letter.

In Ross’ case, it might mean that you are admitted directly into the Ross Business School, where commonly, the Sophomores of UM apply to get admitted. Your pre-admit would be a direct admittance to Ross as a freshman.

Other than those ideas, I’m not sure.

Guys, Google exists for a reason. There are also tons of threads on preferred admission to Ross here on CC.

Normal admission to Ross is in sophomore year. However, students with strong credential may be admitted as freshmen (or the so-called pre-admit). In other words, pre-admitted students are guaranteed to be in Ross. Admission rate for pre-admit was 18% last year, but it is expected to decrease this year. Around 20% of the class was pre-admitted as freshmen.
