Actually, this probably explains the stereotype: After the Civil War lots of Black people moved from the South to the North, taking their Southern tastes with them, and the Yankees mistook this for a racial tendancy.

A lot of people in the North love fried chicken and watermelon too, which is why I think that’s just a stupid stereotype. My brother and I are the only people I know of that don’t like watermelon (and we’re black! WHAT?!?!?!). I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who doesn’t like fried chicken.

Although my dad identifies himself as black/african (he’s half somali half yemeni (arab) ) his thoughts kind of seem racist…

So according to my Dad this is how he stereotypes people:

Indians: Good at anything that requires a brain…but not good at anything that requires atheltic abilities. Also hard workers.

Asians: See above.

White people: Ignorant…not sure what else really…

black people: good at anything that doesn’t require a brain…have good atheltic abilities. " Black people have been in this country for over 200 years (counting when they were granted civil rights) and they’re still living on the lower side not making any good contributions to society…on the other hand, somalis have only been here recently in the past 10-20 years…and they’re already becoming sucessful…starting their own businesses, becoming independent etc."

Somali people (they’re like somewhere in between black and arab): creative, excellent entrepreneurs , ingenius, lazy, very proud, arrogant. " You wouldn’t ever catch somalis (inclusing ethiopians & eritreans) in front of the liquor store drinking booze [with their gang] like black people…"

arabs: lazy, stubborn, racist, stuck up (this one is true).

jews: chosen people, they’re very smart & gifted people…probably due to genetic factors. Also very stubborn people.

*this wasn’t meant to offend anybody…of course this is complete B.S. i don’t believe any of it…

I have a bit of a southern accent, and even though I’m first in my class and have a plethora of academic awards, I still get perceived as being less intelligent because of how I talk.

I hate the stereotypes about the south- stupid people think we’re all a bunch of die-hard conservative bible beating rednecks that screw their siblings. No, I do not think Obama is communist and no, I don not know or know of anyone who is racist.

I hate to say it, but you shouldn’t consider “Americans” are fat as a stereotype, but more as a generalization with some truth behind it, because there are a lot of fat Americans out there.
