sub par student by CC standards :(

State: NJ
GPA: 3.784 UW, 4.430 W (I have taken a *very *rigorous courseload – as indicated by my weighted GPA)
SAT: 2070 (1430 M+V) <– Retaking for 2150+
SAT II:
Math IIC: 720
Chemistry: 710
*I go to an extremely competitive school
*we do not rank because of overly-competitive atmosphere

Sophomore Summer – UPenn PreCollege Program
Junior Summer – Taking classes at state university.

***Also I am researching with a professor at Rutgers. We are trying to find a correlation between cortical asymmetry, depression and risk for hypertension/heart disease using a electroencephalogram and a pulse/blood pressure monitor. I think this is pretty unique

JV Lacrosse (9,10)
Summer LaX League (9)

Chances at

UChicago (EA) – Both paternal grandparents are alumni and I have uncle on-staff at Med School
Northwestern
Emory
Hopkins
UCLA/UCSD
NYU
Columbia
Michigan
Notre Dame

You’re scores are low for a very competitive mid atlantic schools and your greatest competition is from your classmates and those at similar NJ schools.

No way is Columbia happening.

Northwestern and Hopkins are reaches.

JV Lacrosse (9,10)
Summer LaX League (9)
Amnesty International (10)
National Spanish Honors Society (11)

These mean nothing.

UChicago (EA) – Both paternal grandparents are alumni and I have uncle on-staff at Med School (unfortunately that means you have no legacy and your uncle is at the wrong school to help you–Slight Reach to Reach
Northwestern–Reach
Emory–Match to Slight Reach
Hopkins–Slight Reach
UCLA (OOS)–Slight Reach
UCSD (OOS)–Match to Slight Reach
NYU–Match
Columbia–Reach
Michigan–Slight Reach
Notre Dame–Match to Slight Reach

The best thing you have going for you is the GPA and research that you are doing with the professor at Rutgers. Play those up and the “match to slight reaches” and maybe even one “slight reach” above will all be matches.

High five for having higher SAT scores than me (out of 1600).

Chicago gives no advantage to legacy anyway, though your uncle’s connection might help. If anything, you’ll have a better idea of what the school is about and you should use this information to your own advantage.

http://maroon.uchicago.edu/online_edition/news/2007/03/06/admissions-legacy-students-don’t-have-edge/

In your application to Chicago and elsewhere, spell out your Red Cross/ Model UN commitments more clearly. Right now, they just look like filler. If you can give specific examples of speeches you’ve given, activities you’ve volunteered for, events you’ve coordinated (and along with that, a sense of how much these activities take up your time) you’ll be much better off.

For Chicago, work on giving a sense of yourself through the Uncommon Application questions and think about why you would be a good fit for the school. If you’re not, and you’re applying there just to apply there, I’m afraid you won’t find much to enjoy.

thanks guys – anyone else willing to comment?
