I submitted an internship application late. I missed a deadline, but submitted my application anyways because I couldn’t resist to miss out on an opportunity. However, this internship is a writing internship and deadlines are important do you think the editor will give me a second chance?

Likely no. As you mentioned missing deadline is a big deal and they will have plenty of applicants.
