Submitting second term grades for transfers?

I noticed that unlike Common App schools and other non-Common App schools, MIT does not have a midterm grade report for transfers to fill out. Is it at all recommended to submit grades for coursework in progress for the current term if they would help make clear academic trajectory? And what is the best timing to do so (e.g. right after midterms)? I’m assuming earlier gives less of a clear picture, but later might be too late to have an impact on decisions. Should I fill out another supplemental cover sheet and attach notes from TAs/professors for this term stating how I am doing in my classes, or is there a form that is preferred?

In the absence of any concrete advice, I’m going to blindly guess that the end of this week is a sensible time for me to track down people and ask for mid-term progress to forward to the admissions office. Next week is spring break, for which I’ll be traveling, and the following week will already be the week of March 28th-April 1st and probably way too late to affect decisions if they’re coming out early April.

I’ll probably email mittransfer@mit.edu for advice as well and post what I hear.

Hello!

You’re right- unlike most schools, MIT doesn’t have a “mid-year” report. Back when I was applying, I did not sent one, nor any substitution for it. But i you feel that it would give the admissions office some insight of your application, then definitely send them something as soon as possible (Transfer Decisions usually come out at the end of the first week of May so you want to give them ample time to considerate)

Best of luck!

Thanks, Medeth  - yes, I think it’s probably necessary to give insight into my application. I’m a nontraditional student since I went on sabbatical three years ago from my old college to work and am turning 24 this summer. I only have taken three college classes in the past three years, with one of them last term and two of them in progress this term.

Amusingly enough, the transfer application date this year was moved up by a month to be due Feb 15, and we hear back earlier (“early April”). So it’s actually hopefully only three more weeks of waiting.
