Submitting supplemental material

I recently attended a day-long stem cell research lecture at my state hospital; what is the best way to let MIT know about this? An essay or a brief letter?

Also, I’m a Rensselaer Medalist, which I put on my application; this comes with a minimum $60,000 scholarship to RPI. Is it possible that the adcoms, upon seeing this, may have thought that MIT wouldn’t be my first choice (absolutely not true-I will take out any amount of loans necessary to go to MIT)? Should I write a letter to let them know that MIT is my first choice, regardless of other offers?

MasterOfBalances,

Congratulations on being a Rensselaer Medalist. RPI is an excellent institution.

I don’t believe the adcom will hold that against you. Each year many applicants have received numerous financial incentives from other institutions of higher learning. A lot of MIT applicants will have full ride offers from the state universities and attractive financial offers (full tuition, etc…) from other schools.
